Branch Retinal Vein Occlusion
Branch Retinal vein occlusion (BRVO) is one of the most common retinal vascular disorders. It is a venous blockage at any branch of the central retinal vein. Sometimes the veins of the eye are too narrow and cause blockage. It is more likely to occur in people with diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol.
Symptoms
- There is painless blurred vision. It worsens over the next few hours or days.
- Loss of vision.
- Most of the time, it happens in one eye.
Causes
Uncontrolled high blood pressure is one of the most common causes of BRVO. Being overweight or obese, cardiovascular diseases and glaucoma are also responsible for this. An abnormal tendency to develop blood clotting is found in younger patients who suffer from BRVO.
Treatment
The main aim of treatment is to dry up the fluid that has accumulated in the retina as a result of the vein occlusion. This can be achieved by either
- Intravitreal Anti VEGF injections
- Intravitreal Steroid injections
- Laser therapy
